A seven-minute visual inquiry into inheritance, direction, and choice
Some parts of us begin before we have language. We do not choose all of what grows in us. We can begin by noticing.
Keep this as light or personal as you choose. You may work with a habit, phrase, family role, expectation, gift, or something entirely symbolic. You do not need to search for a memory.

Movement 1 · Choose
Circle one place your attention keeps returning to.
Look at the roots, shadow, hollow, new growth, open earth, and edges. You do not need to know why one place holds your attention.

Notice where the roots are headed.
Choose one root. With the hand you normally use, extend its direction. Take it farther, branch it, or let it stop. Change color if the movement changes.

Movement 3 · Interrupt
Change the way you make the next mark.
If it is comfortable, use your other hand. On a phone or with limited hand movement, slow down, change your grip, or use a finger you do not usually draw with.
Begin in one place and extend or branch a root. Notice the difference without correcting it. This change does not reveal a hidden truth; it simply creates another way to move.

Add one mark for the direction you want to remember.
Choose a color. Add one final line, branch, dot, boundary, or opening. The mark can be small. Let the image hold the direction you want to remember.

Return to the room.
Look away from the screen. Notice three ordinary things around you. Let your hands rest. Take the time you need.
